ARTISTS OF ALL KINDS
Since 2015, we have commissioned many pieces of music, poetry and scholarly commentary to address the fuller context and Irish cultural ethos embedded in many of the artworks in the Collection.
By enabling these artworks to offer moments of singular inspiration to scholars and other artists, these ‘cultural siblings’, so to speak, are able to engage with and illuminate one another in revealing and often magical ways—as you will soon see and hear.
Imagine that, like a diamond, culture has many ingredients that, while they are each distinct and discrete “facets” unto themselves (language, history, customs, literature, music, art, etc.), they each rely upon each other for their fullest expression. In the academic world, the word “interdisciplinarity” best expresses the attempt to experience these facets in concert with one another.
Aileen Dillane’s essay, from which this section takes its name–Artists of all Kinds–features an in-depth series of interviews and reflections about this project with 12 of its respondents: Linda Aldrich, Damien Connolly, Martin Dyar, Maeve Gilchrist, Kieran Jordan, Liz Knowles, Aoife Mannix, Sean Mc Comiskey, Ryan Molloy, Lillie Morris, Eileen O’Brien and Eamonn Wall.
