Harbour

The tide has come and washed away hard lines

of near and far and left an easy sweep of mauves

and blues and jeweled pools, a sparkling path

where sky becomes earth and earth becomes

the sky, and all is joined and lifted into night.

The woman could be the artist heading home,

feeling the soothing joy of a day gone well,

her pockets emptied now of the stars and shells

and shining bits of silk she started with. She lets

her hands rest warmly there and doesn’t mind

how her shoes and feet are getting wet, sinking

deep into the azure sand that she has made.

She doesn’t see how brightly the light

comes in around her as she walks.
